A family member recently passed his GCSEs with flying colours and to celebrate, I made a cake especially for him. I turned up with the cake at his house one Saturday afternoon and he was totally surprised. I had prepared the cake with no one knowing, so it was a huge shock for him.
The cake was made as a Victoriasponge cake, two halves sandwiched together with a buttercream filling. I used blue fondant to cover the cake and the green stripes of fondant were added by brushing the backside of them with water and sticking them to the blue. The green stripes were cut free hand with no measurements. The formation I was looking for was a thick stripe then a thin stripe. Blue buttercream icing was used to pipe along the top and base of the cake and royal icing was used to write ‘Well Done Mathew’.
